A Technical Overview
The Federation Mission Statement clearly states as prime objectives:
“To develop practical and technically sound codes of practice; to develop safe, practical and technically sound specifications for the industry; and to promote their adoption by contractors, engineers and authorities”.
The Federation will do whatever is deemed possible to bring to members attention the latest specific industry standards from similar organisations around the world, and also arrange to have representatives on relevant committees involved in the preparation or redrafting of appropriate Codes of Practice and Australian Standards relating to the piling and foundation engineering industry. In order to assist with this:
-
The Federation has established a link to the web sites of the European Federation of Foundation Contractors website, the UK based Federation of Piling Specialists and the US based Deep Foundation Institute (see links page). All of these organisations are involved in the drafting of appropriate Codes of Practice in their sphere of activity and have updated references on their web sites.
-
The Federation has a representative on the AS 2159 Piling Code Review Committee – the representative is currently Mr David Klingberg of Wagstaff Piling Pty Ltd. Several other members have representatives on this committee on behalf of other organisations.
-
The Federation will be re appointing a new Technical Committee with a representative from each of Queensland; New South Wales and Victoria/South Australia working in co operation with the Executive Director. Each committee will be required to establish a realistic Action Plan for initiatives that they consider achievable on an Annual basis and to report regularly to General Meetings on progress being made and assistance required from other members.
