A Training Overview

The Federation Mission Statement clearly states as one of its prime objectives:

“To promote skill, training and accreditation of employees in all aspects of geotechnical construction”

Each member of the Federation is responsible for the training of its employees in a way most suited to their level of expertise and skill requirements, and the nature of that members business. The Federation will do whatever is deemed possible to bring to members attention the availability of training programmes in Australia that have been established or in the process of establishment, and the experiences of other members. On a national level the Federation will provide representation to the appropriate industry training bodies and assist with the development of training standards within those bodies. In order to assist with this:

- The Federation has established a preliminary index of Training Providers on a state by state basis applicable to the Piling and Foundation Engineering industry. Members are encouraged to use these in their own in house training programmes. It is the intent to continue to monitor training providers with feed back from members, and to expand the list to provide a more comprehensive coverage.
- The Federation has supported the ADITC (Australian Drilling Industry Training Committee) for several years and has a representative on the committee to provide input on behalf of the Foundation/Construction drilling sector of the drilling industry. The ADITC is a national organisation which was formed by industry in 1978 and is responsible for skills development, levels of competency and the qualifications structure for the industry. The ADITC represents ALL drilling related industry sectors: waterwell, foundation and construction, oil, gas, and geothermal, geotechnical, seismic, blast hole, environmental and mineral exploration.
- The Federation will be re appointing a new Training Committee with a representative from each of Queensland; New South Wales and Victoria/South Australia working in co operation with the Executive Director. Each committee will be required to establish a realistic Action Plan for initiatives that they consider achievable on an Annual basis and to report regularly to General Meetings on progress being made and assistance required from other members.
